(San Juan-PR) – San Juan, Puerto Rico — Attorney and CPA Carmen Vega Fournier was sworn in yesterday as the new Comptroller of Puerto Rico, marking the beginning of a new stage in the country's governmental oversight. In an official ceremony held yesterday at the Office of the Comptroller of Puerto Rico, Attorney Vega Fournier took her oath before Superior Court Judge Hon. Isander Jesús Rivera Morales, after having been confirmed by the Senate of Puerto Rico on October 9, and by the members of the House of Representatives on October 14.
During her swearing-in, the new Comptroller expressed her commitment to accountability, public ethics, and the strengthening of audit processes in the government. “I assume this responsibility with humility and a firm determination to serve the people of Puerto Rico with integrity and professional rigor,” declared Vega Fournier.
The official, who previously chaired the Economic Development Bank, will hold the position for a term of ten years, replacing the outgoing comptroller Yesmín M. Valdivieso.
The Office of the Comptroller of Puerto Rico is responsible for auditing the use of public funds in government agencies, municipalities, and public corporations, ensuring compliance with the law and sound public administration.
