We include the results of the compliance audit we conducted of the Municipality of Fajardo. We performed it based on the authority conferred upon us in Article III, Section 22 of the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and in Act No. 9 of July 24, 1952, as amended; and in compliance with our Annual Audit Plan.
The Office of the Comptroller of Puerto Rico issued a favorable opinion on the fiscal operations of the Municipality of Fajardo related to the management and control of cash in collections, bank reconciliations, and accounts with inactive balances. The Report also indicates that the operations related to the purchases of goods and services were carried out in accordance with the applicable law and regulations.
The audit includes a special comment on the civil lawsuits pending resolution. As of October 1, 2018, the Municipality had nine lawsuits for damages in the courts for $3 million. The Report, second and final for Fajardo, covers the period from July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2018.
