The Office of the Comptroller of Puerto Rico issued a qualified opinion of Bayamón's fiscal operations related to the disbursements of resolved lawsuits. A qualified opinion is issued when individual or combined noncompliance is significant, but not pervasive.
The single-finding Report reveals that in 2014 the Municipality paid 47% in interest above the original $59,900 to a citizen and his wife, to comply with the Court's judgment for a damages lawsuit filed in 2009. This situation of not paying the 2012 judgment in a timely manner caused the Municipality to unnecessarily disburse $57,570 in accrued interest.
This third and final report of Bayamón covers the period from January 1, 2015 to October 31, 2018.
