The Office of the Inspector General of the Federal Department of Education (OIG) granted recognition to the Office of the Comptroller of Puerto Rico for its exceptional support to the OIG in its efforts to combat fraud and corruption in Education over the past 10 years.
“We are grateful for the distinction received, which reinforces our firmest commitment to share information, experiences and knowledge with oversight entities,” stated the Comptroller of Puerto Rico, Yesmín M. Valdivieso. In this regard, she highlighted that she maintains in force a Memorandum of Understanding with the OIG, since “the Office of the Comptroller's aim is to collaborate and strengthen investigations with other oversight entities, to defend the legal and proper use of public property and funds.”
The OIG's Assistant Special Agent in Charge, Robert Wolfe, thanked the close collaboration of the Office of the Comptroller of Puerto Rico in investigations such as those carried out into the Tutoring program, the transporters, and the Purchasing Office of the Department of Education. He also indicated that more than 70 people have been charged as a result of these investigations, including the cases of the Department of Recreation and Sports and the Municipality of Sabana Grande. 
The recognition activity, which took place on October 15, included the participation of personnel from the Office of the Comptroller of Puerto Rico and from the Office of the Inspector General of the United States Department of Education.
