San Juan, Puerto Rico — The Comptroller of Puerto Rico, CPA and Attorney Carmen Vega Fournier, and the Acting Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in San Juan, Yariel Ramos, signed on June 16 a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the purpose of strengthening collaborative efforts in the fight against money laundering and financial fraud on the island.
“The Memorandum of Understanding between the Office of the Comptroller and Homeland Security strengthens our collaborative efforts and improves our ability to enforce both federal and state laws. This partnership will allow for greater cooperation in the exchange of information, the development of specialized investigations and the implementation of joint strategies to combat and prevent financial crimes that directly affect government resources and the trust of the people of Puerto Rico,” said the Comptroller of Puerto Rico.
“As part of the mission and broad authorities of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), HSI San Juan is committed to aggressively pursuing criminal activity related to money laundering and financial fraud. This Memorandum of Understanding with the Office of the Comptroller of Puerto Rico strengthens our collaborative efforts and enhances our ability to enforce both federal and state laws. By working together, we are better prepared to protect the integrity of financial systems and to ensure that those who engage in illicit activities are held accountable under the law,” Ramos stated.
This agreement represents a firm step toward greater interagency integration. Through this MOU, the Office of the Comptroller of Puerto Rico (OCPR) and HSI reaffirm their commitment to transparency, accountability and the protection of the country’s public resources.
