San Juan-PR) – The Office of the Comptroller of Puerto Rico (OCPR) and the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus (UPRRP) signed a collaborative agreement to integrate lectures on audit and investigation practices, as well as the fundamental aspects of public administration, into the academic experience. The Collaborative Agreement, in effect until June 30, 2026, unites the university mission of training and professionally preparing students, and the mission of the Office of the Comptroller to promote the effective, economical, efficient, and ethical use of Government resources.
“We are pleased to establish this agreement to train the future leaders of Puerto Rico about the mission of the Office of the Comptroller, and so that they become the standard-bearers of sound public administration. Deepening our purpose of overseeing the transactions of public property and funds to determine whether they have been carried out in accordance with the law ultimately contributes to spreading the message of the good use of government resources for the benefit of citizens,” indicated Comptroller Yesmín M. Valdivieso.
For her part, the Rector of the Río Piedras Campus of the University of Puerto Rico, Angélica Varela Llavona, stated “this agreement with the Office of the Comptroller of Puerto Rico reflects our commitment to academic excellence and the comprehensive training of our students, by linking them directly with fundamental practices of audit and investigation in public administration. With this collaboration, we seek for our students not only to acquire theoretical knowledge, but also practical tools to contribute to a more efficient and ethical public management, in line with the mission we share with the Office of the Comptroller.”
As part of the Agreement, students will have the opportunity to acquire knowledge of public administration such as internal controls, audit standards, codes of ethics, and the investigation of complaints, among others. In addition, the OCPR will offer a formative experience through the Internship Program. This Program, which is governed by Regulation 63 of 2014 of the OCPR, offers the opportunity for qualified students to learn about the functioning of the Government in the practice of audits while fostering interest in public service.
The Office of the Comptroller, in addition to offering lectures for students, will participate in the information tables at the various events of the deans of student affairs and academic affairs, and a Liaison Officer will facilitate information of interest for the work carried out at the Campus.
“With this agreement with the Río Piedras Campus of the UPR, we want to give the best of our knowledge and experience to impact the training of students. We appreciate the commitment of the Rector, Dr. Angélica Varela Llavona, who, by embracing this agreement, promotes education of excellence and a framework of professional training for university students,” expressed Valdivieso Galib.
