San Juan – The Office of the Comptroller of Puerto Rico clarifies that the information disseminated in public opinion about a report on the Tu Hogar Renace program contains inaccuracies.
“The referenced document does not constitute an audit report, but rather a monitoring exercise to determine the scope and veracity of the complaints that were being discussed in the media”, indicated the Comptroller, Yesmín M. Valdivieso. In addition, the results of the monitoring exercise were shared with the Office of the Inspector General of the US Department of Housing and Urban Development on February 24, 2020, since the principal party responsible for auditing the funds is the federal government” expressed the Comptroller.
The Office of the Comptroller, as part of its oversight mission, actively collaborates with other entities and shares information and findings pertinent to the objectives of the related agencies. In fact, the monitoring exercise on Tu Hogar Renace was also discussed personally with the then-Secretary of Housing, Fernando Gil Enseñat, with the then-Governor Ricardo Rosselló in the context of a meeting of the Anti-Corruption Group and was forwarded to the Secretary of Housing designated in February 2020, Luis Carlos Fernández Trinchet.
“We reaffirm that the monitoring exercise carried out was not an audit and that we will continue working on the oversight of public property and funds with independence and objectivity to determine whether they have been carried out in accordance with the applicable law and regulations”, Valdivieso concluded by saying
