San Juan – The Office of the Comptroller of Puerto Rico notifies that it has taken adjustment measures in the updating of its Registry of Contracts consultation systems, in the face of a technical incident. These corrections allow that the information that other websites take from ocpr.gov.pr does not expose documents with the contractor's social security number.
“As soon as the Office of the Comptroller became aware of this situation, the consultation service was taken down to identify and correct the source of the error, although this service never presented any exposure of the data” noted the Comptroller, Yesmín M. Valdivieso. In addition, “the Office hired an external Information Security firm to evaluate the entire system, which to date has not found defects”, noted Valdivieso.
The Office completed the installation of a new application for the Registry and the update of the consultation service on July 16, 2021. The Office of the Comptroller warned on August 20, 2021, of the remote possibility that, through alternate mechanisms, the social security number of contractors could have been exposed, in response to which it took the measures provided by law, and activated the security protocol to resolve the technical incident.
“We appreciate the prompt preventive action of the internet search companies, and of the portals that take our information as a resource”, stated the Comptroller. “The evaluation is expected to conclude next Wednesday, which will allow us to put the Consultation into service”, noted Valdivieso.
