On February 24, the College of Certified Public Accountants of Puerto Rico held the 1^st Annual Anti-Fraud Conference. The conference discussed topics such as: the functions of the Group for the Prevention and Eradication of Corruption (PRECO), strategies for developing anti-corruption programs, tax evasion in Puerto Rico and the United States and its consequences, the regulatory framework for data protection in Puerto Rico and the United States, the importance of collaboration among agencies to prevent fraud, and different fraud schemes seen from the perspective of the fraudster, among others.

Comptroller Yesmín Valdivieso was one of the invited panelists, the Office of the Comptroller being one of the agencies that is part of the PRECO Group. The event was also attended by Mr. Bruce Dorris, president and chief executive of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, Mr. Francisco Parés Alicea, secretary of the Department of the Treasury, Mr. José Carlos Colón De Jesús, assistant secretary of the Tax Fraud Area of the Department of the Treasury, Mr. Luis Pérez Vargas, executive director of the Office of Government Ethics of Puerto Rico, Mrs. Ivelisse Torres Rivera, inspector general of Puerto Rico, Mr. Joseph González, special agent in charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Puerto Rico, and Mr. Juan Carlos López Velázquez, FBI special agent in the public corruption area.
