A report by the Office of the Comptroller revealed improper payments in the Senate, among them “extravagant, excessive, and unnecessary” spending between 2013 and 2020 on a sofa, chandeliers, and a console table, among other items.
According to the 48-page audit, 20% of all the purchases totaling $376,921 during that period corresponded to extravagant spending, including a sofa for $2,545, two lamps for $1,200 each, a console table for $870, and two laptops for $9,106 for the Office of the Presidency in 2016.
