The Federal Fiscal Control Board will sign a collaborative agreement today with the Office of the Comptroller of Puerto Rico to gain access to the government's contracts database and the positions registry, without needing to make requests to the government for their delivery.
This was announced yesterday by Comptroller Yesmín Valdivieso, who in an interview with EL VOCERO stated that it is the same agreement that was signed with the Secretariat of Governance for the month of May 2017.
“From the Board's office they can access my database and, as long as confidentiality is agreed upon, they can see all the contracts they want, the positions registry, the registry of (job) losses, and all the information we have,” she commented.
Valdivieso observed that “the Promesa law itself made the information from our contracts registry available to the Board; and I am happy that after a year and a half of offering the registry to the Board, that access they should have under (the federal law) Promesa has finally been granted.”
Tu Hogar Renace audit due in October
On another note, the Comptroller said that the audit of the Department of Housing program, Tu Hogar Renace, funded with money from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), has been underway.
She explained that for two to three weeks, the auditors will be visiting a thousand homes where the money was disbursed and the repairs completed.
“From there, we are going to find out how many contractors are functioning and which are not; and whether there are bunglers charging for work that is not real, and based on that, findings and recommendations will come out so that (with) the next $1.5 billion arriving in federal funds, they do it right,” she stressed.
She indicated that her expectation is that the audit report will be ready by the beginning or middle of October.
